Visit to Sevaashrama
June 13, 2025As part of community service programme, with the purpose of developing empathy, appreciate the importance of interdisciplinary teamwork and gain more comprehensive view of patient care, a team of students of the institute visited Ave Maria Palliative Care Unit at Vamanjoor on 12th June, 2025.
Dr. Laveena Noronha, Founder of the Centre, addressed the students on meaning and purpose of palliative care. “Palliative care aims to improve the quality of life for individuals and their families facing serious or life-limiting illnesses by providing symptom relief, support and comfort” She said.
She informed that most inmates at the centre are cancer patients in their last stages of the disease and hence needed special attention and care. She spoke on the experiences they had with the inmates during their last days at the Palliative Care Centre.
Students contributed towards some medicines and also gave refreshments to the inmates. Assistant Professor Dr. Savitha Pereira accompanied them.
